The people of Lasthold don’t usually refer to the world by any other name than “the world” or “the earth,” if they feel a need to talk about the whole world at all. However, when not one, but two, advanced alien civilizations come crashing into your world in strange ships, you suddenly have more need to distinguish your world from their worlds. For that reason, people have begun using the planet name that astronomers use: Talothian. The word Talothian is itself a form of the word Talothe, the native proper name for Mother, the goddess, for humans see the world as their home, and at the heart of the world is the heart of Mother. Its large moon is called Phedorian, a form of Phedor, the god known as Father the Protector.
In astronomers’ terms, Talothian is a small “garden” planet, about 80% of the diameter of modern Earth. It circles its sun (personified as the god Harvester) once every 300 days, and the people of Lasthold divide a day into 20 hours, but those “hours” are a little longer than Earth’s. It’s still fine to think of time in hours and minutes and seconds, as no one would know the difference. 60% of the planet’s surface is covered by oceans. The land is a mixture of mountains, plains, forests, deserts, and ice fields, much like earth.
Pretty much every part of the world has people on it, organized into civilizations of various “advancement.” Certainly, the area of Lasthold wasn’t the only powerful civilization in the world, but all of the others share similar or worse fates.
