Minimum Weapon Damage

Your minimum melee and ranged damage dice are fixed, regardless of the weapon you use. Damage type (piercing, slashing, etc.) and other rules (two-handed, etc.) still depends on what weapon you carry. Your class still determines what weapons you may use, but you may use a weapon not on the list using the damage number on this chart (e.g., a wizard can use a longsword for 1d4 damage).

Barbarian: 1d10 melee, 1d8 ranged
Bard: 1d6 melee, 1d6 ranged
Cleric: 1d6 melee, 1d6 ranged
Druid: 1d6 melee, 1d6 ranged
Fighter: 1d10 melee, 1d8 ranged
Monk: 1d6 melee, 1d6 ranged
Paladin: 1d8 melee, 1d8 ranged
Ranger: 1d8 melee, 1d8 ranged
Rogue: 1d6 melee, 1d6 ranged
Sorcerer: 1d4 melee, 1d6 ranged
Warlock: 1d4 melee, 1d6 ranged
Wizard: 1d4 melee, 1d6 ranged

This is just a rule I’m messing around with. It gives players more freedom with their character concept. You can play a fighter who fights with two daggers and still roll 1d8 damage. You can be a wizard with a longsword, but you’ll still do only 1d4 damage.
